On March 11th, 2010 Forbes Magazine published its annual list of the world’s wealthiest people in the world and revealed their sums of money as well. Although 2009 witnessed the serious global economic crisis, it came to us as a surprise that there are more and more billionaires than ever in 2010, but there is merely a slight change in this list. Now let’s see:
10. Karl Albrecht
The world’s 10th richest man possesses a chain of discount supermarkets called Karl Albrecht who comes from Germany . He is also the owner of Aldi Sud, one of Europe’s dominant grocers with his asset of $23.5 billion.
9. Amancio Ortega
Amancio Ortega is known as a “style maven.” Moreover, the Spaniard owns Inditex fashion firm, which operates in 73 countries. He also has real estate including the building that houses gas storage tank Bicardi USA. He is listed in the richest men in the world with his fortune of $25 billion.
8. Eike Batista
It was a successful year for Eike Batista who comes from Brazil. He also made $19.5 billion over the past year, mostly from his oil-and-gas exploration company, so he is ranked the 8th in the list wit his fortune of $27 billion.

6. Lawrence Ellison
Lawrence Ellison is now the sixth richest person in the world with his fortune of $28 billion and is an American entrepreneur and the co-founder and CEO of Oracle Corporation, a major enterprise software company.
5. Lakshmi Mittal
Mr Lakshmi Mittal, the Chairman and Managing Director of the NRI steel magnate, takes the fifth spot with an approximated net worth of $26.7 billion, up from the eight position last year.
4. Mukesh Ambani
The global economic crisis does not seem to impact the fortunes of some Indians including the Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, Mr Mukesh Ambani. Moreover, Mr Ambani has improved his position and has become the fourth richest man in the world in 2010 with an estimated net worth of $29 billion.
3. Warren Buffett
Warren Buffett who is known as the talented American investor owns his huge asset which jumped from $10 billion to $47 billion on rising shares of Berkshire Hathaway and ranks third in this list.
2. Bill Gates
Bill Gates with his property of $53 billion is ranked second in the world. He is up $13 billion from a year ago as shares of Microsoft rose 50% in 12 months. In addition, he had held the title of world’s richest 14 of the past 15 years. The reason for his drop in this list may come from his charity activities.
1. Carlos Slim Helu
At the number one spot is a corpulent gentleman from Mexico called Carlos Slim Helu with his asset of £35.7 billion, respectively $58.7 billion. Slim has dominated Mexico’s telephone industry since he bought the state-run telephone company Telmex in 1990, and Mexico Telmex controls about 80 percent of fixed lines.
